Urban Miyares is a nationally-recognized entrepreneur, blinded and multi-disabled Vietnam veteran, motivational/inspirational speaker and lecturer, author/published writer, inventor and patent holder, media personality, world-class disabled athlete and sailor. He is the president of the Disabled Businesspersons Association, a San Diego-based, volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) public charity he founded in 1985.
In 2011, Miyares became a content expert for The Hadley School for the Blind’s Forsythe Center for Entrepreneurship as well as the school’s new Veterans Outreach Specialist.
An entrepreneur for more than 40 years, Urban Miyares, and the Disabled Businesspersons Association are recognized as one of the nation's leading authorities on the self-employment of people with disabilities, having assisted thousands in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Among his many professional activities, Urban is co-founder and director of "Challenged America,” a pioneer and leader in the field of adaptive sailing as a therapeutic, rehabilitation activity; director of the "National Disabled Veterans Business Center" and "Special Kids In Business" -- an innovative San Diego after-school entrepreneur and mentor program for school-aged children with disabilities. He is also founder and principal in a number of business ventures and other community programs.
Miyares is the host of Biz @ 9, a monthly webinar on non-traditional self-employment.
Urban and his wife of 43 years, JoAnn, live in San Diego. They have one son who, with his wife, have given them four grandchildren.
